5 Tips for Writing Test
#1: 'If you fail to plan, you plan to fail' ~Benjamin Franklin
You need to put aside at least 5 minutes per question to do some simple planning of the details you will be including in your questions. Listing of short points or a simple mind map (especially for task 2) would suffice.
#2: Stick to the word limit
(Task 1 -150 words, Task 2 - 250 words)
If you do not meet the required number, you will be penalized greatly. Having said that, if you stick to the given space provided on your answer sheets (without leaving a line in between each sentence), you should do alright with your word count. You should not waste time counting the number of words.
#3: Mark out the key words of the questions
You will need to do this so as to have a clear picture of what you need to write about. This will also ensure that you stay on task and do not write off tangent or veer off the topic specified.
#4: Organization is as important as grammar and spelling
When writing, you need to remember to only have ONE MAIN POINT per paragraph. Put similar points, elaborations and examples of the same topic in that paragraph.
#5: State your stand clearly and stick to it throughout the essay, especially for Argumentative writing
At no point in your writing should you waver or change your stand. Remember, there are no right or wrong opinions, it depends entirely on how you convince the audience of your stand on a particular issue.
